| Folio Information |
The manuscript is divided into three sections. 1. Typescript transcriptions of an anecdote and of copies of letters, with a printed poem: f. 5: typographic print of a poem by Disraeli entitled “On the Portrait of the Lady Mahon. 1839”. The verso of the print has the annotation: “Sent by Lord Stanhope Sept. 14. 1866”. 2. Photographic copies of images of Disraeli, and of people and of places connected with Disraeli. Most of the images were included as illustrations in the publication “The life of Benjamin Disraeli: Earl of Beaconsfield”, by W.F. Monypenny and G.E. Buckle. Included are a few images which would appear to have been considered for inclusion in the work, only to have been rejected. f. 6: Annotation on verso of the photograph: "Bradenham House". Published caption: "Bradenham Manor. From a watercolour by Mrs. Partridge" - volume 1, facing page 120. f. 7: Annotation on verso of the photograph: "Lady Beaconsfield". Published caption: "Viscountess Beaconsfield from the portrait at Hughenden painted in 1873 by G.F. Middleton" - volume 5, frontispiece. The photograph is of Middleton`s portrait of Lady Beaconsfield, but the published image was an etching by the firm of Emery Walker based on Middleton`s work and taken, presumably, from the photograph rather than directly from the original. f. 8: Annotation on verso of the photograph: "Mr. Disraeli at Glasgow University 1873. From a drawing by Mrs Blackburn at Hughenden". Published caption: "Mr. Disraeli at Glasgow University, 1873. From a drawing by Mrs. Blackburn at Hughenden" - volume 5, facing page 264. f. 9: See f. 10. f. 10: Published caption: "Group at Hughenden, Whitsuntide, 1874. From a photograph by H.W. Taunt, Oxford" - volume 5, facing page 312. This image is a touched-up copy of f. 9. The published image was produced from this copy. f. 11: Annotation on verso: "Earl of Beaconsfield Copyright property of J. Russell & Son Southsea". Published caption: "Benjamin Earl of Beaconsfield. Photographed at Osborne by the Queen’s command, July 22, 1878" - volume 6, facing page 310. The photographic portrait from which this copy has been derived was captured by (Cornelius) Jabez Hughes. f. 12: Published caption: "Memorial to the Earl of Beaconsfield. Placed by Queen Victoria in the chancel of Hughenden Church" - volume 6, facing page 464. |
